Alumni Conference: "Societies in Transition – Adjusting to Changing Global Environments" |
 |
 |
 |
 |
In 1998/99, thirty key organizations and foundations involved in transatlantic cultural, scientific and media relations, including DAAD, met at a "Round Table USA" to discuss ways in which to improve the harmonization of their activities and possible areas of synergy. One of the outcomes was the joint decision to stage a German-American Conference every two years to bring together promising young academics and professionals to examine subjects that will be of crucial importance for future German-American cooperation.
The 4th Alumni Conference of the Round Table USA will be:
"Societies in Transition – Adjusting to Changing Global Environments"
Stanford, California – June 26-29, 2008
The conference aims to offer a fresh look at the challenges which the ongoing process of globalization imposes on various areas of life such as
• Global Change and Civil Societies
• Pluralist Societies and a Common Cannon of Values – A Contradiction?
• The Role of Religious Convictions in Our Societies and Their Futures
• How Do Mobility and Migration Change Our Societies?
• Transnational Politics and Global Responsibility
Download the draft program here.
The conference will welcome a total of roughly 150 participants, with 30 of those slots open to DAAD alumni in the USA. We hope to have a number of alumni participate actively in the conference by taking part in the panel discussion, making a kick-off statement in a working group, or by serving as a chair for one of the working groups. Of course we hope for general engagement and active participation by all conference participants during discussion and working group sessions. The conference language will be English and DAAD will cover local expenses (accommodation, meals) and will provide a lump sum travel subsidy.
If you are interested in participating, please submit:
• this form
• a brief CV (maximum 2-3 pages)
• a brief letter outlining your motivation for participating in the conference
Please send all materials by February 6, 2008 to: DAAD New York, Attn. Laura Montgomery, 871 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017; Fax: (212) 755-5780, Email: alumni@daad.org
